Guarding the Guardians: Protecting Key Species in Their Last Frontier
Integrating camera trap technology and data science to monitor the survival of over 100 wildlife species in the heart of Java.
Java’s biodiversity is at a critical crossroads due to habitat fragmentation. At JAWI, we do more than just track numbers; we ensure that every individual animal has the space to thrive. Through our Conservation Science program, our field teams have deployed a network of camera traps across strategic forest corridors to document the presence of elusive species. The gathered data is then analyzed using Data Science methodologies to understand movement patterns and potential threats in real-time. Our success in identifying and monitoring over 100 species serves as a vital foundation for more inclusive and effective habitat protection policies, ensuring the long-term resilience of our ecosystem.
